While summers in Chicago are perhaps better known for fun-filled events and festivals, there’s certainly no shortage of things to do in the Windy City during the autumn season either. From numerous harvest festivals and the annual Chicago Marathon to the Magnificent Mile Lights Festival and countless holiday markets, there’s truly something to do for just about anybody who calls the Chicago area home. For a closer look at what’s happening, here are just some of the events we’re looking forward to on the fall calendar in 2016:
October Events in Chicago
Bacon & Beer Classic - Solider Field
Spend an afternoon inside one of Chicago’s most historic venues sampling all kinds of bacon-infused dishes and craft beer from over 80 Midwest breweries.
Fulton Marker Harvest Fest - Fulton Market
Fulton Market is now where some of Chicago’s hottest restaurants are located, so it only makes sense to showcase the neighborhood’s culinary scene in the first ever Fulton Market Harvest Fest. Live music, cooking demos, and plenty of great food will all be available.
Bank of America Chicago Marathon - Grant/Millennium Parks
It’s the 39th anniversary of this iconic race, and whether you’re running in the Chicago Marathon or just plan on watching the participants, it still remains one of the city’s most-anticipated events of the year.
Chicago Museum Week - Various Locations
For eleven days in October, 18 of Chicago’s museums will offer discounted admissions, special exhibits, giveaways, and plenty of other great reasons to pay a visit to many of the city’s coolest cultural attractions.
November Events in Chicago
Magnificent Mile Lights Festival - Michigan Avenue
On Friday, November 18th, the Mag Mile Lights Fest will take over downtown for the 25th year. Plenty of family-friendly activities will take place, a parade, and of course an awesome fireworks special towards the end of the night as well.
Christkindlmarket - Daley Plaza
One of Chicago’s richest holiday traditions, the Christkindlmarket Chicago offers a unique shopping experience, traditional German food and drinks, and a great holiday atmosphere. Regardless of how many times you’ve been, it’s something you have to swing by at least once every single year!
Thanksgiving Parade - State Street
To some, the holiday season hasn't officially started until Chicago’s annual Thanksgiving Day Parade runs through downtown Chicago on Thanksgiving morning. As always, the 2016 parade will run along State Street from Congress to Randolph, and spectators are encouraged to arrive as early at 6 a.m. to secure a spot along the route.
