New Chinatown DevelopmentDevelopers have their eye on sites in Chinatown and Pilsen that could mean bringing new life to the area. In one case, a developer aims to turn a vacant old warehouse into a new 200-room hotel and commercial space at the corner of Grove Street and Cermak Road.

Dubbed Hoyt Square, that plan also involves constructing a nearby parking lot and riverwalk. The old building has stood mostly vacant for about ten years, with past proposals and concepts for the site never taking off. Currently only two hotels exist in Chinatown.

Just a couple of blocks away, yet another plan involves constructing a complex of six buildings in East Pilsen. The opportunity includes using mostly vacant land in the area, and transforming it into five buildings filled with more

A proposed multi-million dollar development just got a major nod from the Chicago Plan Commission, putting it closer to reality. The idea is to transform more than 50-acres along the Chicago River’s North Branch into a massive new development.

Despite some concern from area residents, the commission gave its approval to Lincoln Yards, an ambitious $6 million plan to create a campus of skyscrapers on the North Side. In all, the plan calls for the inclusion of 6,000 new residential units.

The first phase of Lincoln Yards aims to bring new office buildings, parking and retail space to the area. The larger plan also calls for new infrastructure to support the massive complex, including new bridges over the Chicago River.

Condo Tower West Loop Sulo Development was already planning to build a 9-story, 28-unit condo building at 19 N. May in Chicago’s rapidly growing West Loop neighborhood. Now, plans have changed and their earlier proposal has been expanded to include 18 stories and 73 condominium residences.

If the name sounds familiar, it’s probably because Sulo was also the company behind Hayden West Loop, a luxury condo building on the same block that’s nearly sold out already.

With the new McDonald’s headquarters now finished and plenty of other office space in the works for Fulton Market and the surrounding area, it’s no wonder why the West Loop real estate market continues to remain red hot.

According to Crain’s, Sulo will still need City Council to approve a zoning change

Chicago Spire SiteOne of the highest profile projects in Chicago history has reportedly hit another road block, according to a recent report from Crain’s.

Not long ago, Related Midwest finally revealed plans for 400 N. Lake Shore Drive, the infamous Chicago Spire site that failed to develop during the height of the recession.

However, downtown Ald. Brendan Reilly has now rejected that plan, which included two separate towers, with one rising a whopping 1,100 feet high.

There’s no doubt Related will continue to work closely with both the Alderman and the Streeterville community to eventually get something done, and as noted by Crain’s, some of the required revisions to the proposal must include putting a security plan together for the adjacent riverwalk and DuSable Park,

A new, boutique condo development will be making its way to Schubert and Lincoln avenues, replacing an existing 7-Eleven convenience store.

Being called Schubert Pointe, the new project is being built and developed by Environs Development, a company mostly known for its lavish and luxurious single-family homes that are found all over Lincoln Park.

When finished, Schubert Pointe will stand just four stories high and feature 10 luxury condo residences that will also include two garage spaces, private outdoor spaces, and access to a common-area rooftop deck with an outdoor kitchen.

An impressive new rental project could be making its way to the northwest corner of Barry and Ashland, replacing a surface parking lot, small playground, and part of a small retail strip that currently occupies the site.

In order for the project to move forward, however, a zoning change will reportedly be required from the city.

As submitted, two different versions of the proposal have been made public, which show a six-story building that include either 65 or 79 apartment units, as well as garage parking for 77 cars, and two retail bays that feature 6,700 square feet of commercial space combined.

According to a report from Curbed, the proposal may be a but too dense given the surrounding area and distance from the “L,” but nothing has been ruled

808 Wells ApartmentsAmli Residential is prepping to build an impressive 17-story, 297-unit apartment tower in Chicago’s River North neighborhood, according to Crain’s. If approved, the project will be built at 808 N. Wells, the northwest corner of Chicago Avenue and Wells Street.

Per the Crain’s report, Amli acquired the site from Smithfield Properties, which originally planned 23-story, 58-unit condo tower prior to the company’s owner passing away a couple years ago.

For now, the plan is to have apartments at 808 N. Wells average about 548 square feet and target millennials who are willing to give up more living space in exchange for lower rent and the ability to live close to work.

Amli currently owns over 20,000 apartment residences across the U.S. and currently has two
