20 East Cedar Real Estate

20 East Cedar condos were completed in 1925 to serve as an upscale apartment complex, originally named, "The Bradley." The building was designed by Fugard & Knapp Architects, a talented duo who designed several beautiful buildings in Chicago — many of which are still in existence. These include developments at 181, 219 and 229 East Lake Shore Drive, and the famous Allerton Hotel.

The style of 20 East Cedar Street condos is Gothic revival. The building boasts many beautiful architectural flourishes such as floor to ceiling windows that illuminate entire two-story units and large terraces with ornate crowns. Prior to the 1920s, apartments were not much favored by people with wealth, who were instead partial to very large single-family houses. A gradual turn towards luxurious apartments took place and 20 East Cedar was billed as “Residences for the Better Class.” In the early 1970’s, the building was converted to the condominiums we see today, though much updating has been carried out since.
