Chicago Memorial Day Weekend

Although we’ve long-awaited the spring and summer seasons after what many consider to be the worst winter in history, it’s still hard to believe Memorial Day Weekend is already upon us. It’s no secret everyone loves summertime in Chicago because of all the outdoor festivals and warm-weather events, but there seems to be even more buzz around town during holiday weekends in here in the Windy City, and Memorial Day Weekend 2014 is certainly no exception. If you haven’t made plans for the weekend or are still considering all your options, here’s a short list of events and things to do in Chicago this coming Memorial Day Weekend:

Navy Pier Fireworks

The summer schedule for fireworks at Navy Pier kicks off on Memorial Day weekend, so head on down to the pier and take in an awesome synchronized fireworks show every Wednesday at 9:30 pm and Saturday at 10:15 p.m. all the way through Labor Day. This year’s first show will be on Saturday May 24th!

Randolph Street Market

One of Chicago’s best outdoor (and indoor) shopping markets, the Randolph Street Market brings over in over 150 vendors that sell anything from antiques and vintage collectables to indie designer clothing and specialty foods. Opening weekend for the 2014 Randolph Street Market starts Memorial Day Weekend and will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. over in Chicago’s West Loop.

Chicago Memorial Day Parade

In between all the holiday weekend fun in the sun, it’s important to remember what Memorial Day is all about and what better way to honor those we’ve lost than by attending the Chicago Memorial Day Parade? As one of the largest Memorial Day Parades in the United States, 2014 marks the 15th year for the Chicago Memorial Day Parade, so help keep this growing tradition alive by stopping by State and Lake Street for the Wreath ceremony, which starts at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
