With Thanksgiving fast-approaching, it's time to start seriously thinking about the upcoming holiday season, which means kicking off the many fun-filled traditions that make late-November and much of December such a special time of the year here in the Windy City. Downtown Chicago has all kinds of special holiday customs, but few quite as unique as the CTA Holiday Train, now in it's 23rdseason. Just yesterday, the CTA released the preliminary schedule for the 2014 Holiday Train, which will run from November 28th all the way to December 23rd.
Regardless of the time of day, the CTA Holiday Train truly is a remarkable sight, no matter your age. Decked out in festive lighting and decorations, Santa and his elves are on board waving to those waiting to board and passing out candy canes and season's greeting to all the joyous passengers along for the ride. For a closer look at when the CTA Holiday Train will be running a your line this year, the schedule is currently listed as follows:
Green Line: Nov. 28, 29 and Dec. 2
Brown/Orange Lines: Dec. 3 through Dec. 6
Pink Line: Dec. 9 and Dec. 10
Blue Line: Dec. 11, 12 and 13
Red Line: Dec. 16, Dec. 18 and Dec. 22
Purple Line Express: Dec. 17 and Dec. 19
Red/Purple Lines: Dec. 20
Yellow Line: Dec. 23
As the actual dates approach, the CTA will release a more accurate schedule, but on each specific day you plan to catch the CTA Holiday Train, it's suggested that you use the CTA Train Tracker at each station, or online to locate the exact location of the train, which will be indicated on the tracker as a candy cane.
