It seems that once the calendar hits June, every weekend in Chicago is loaded with events, festivals, and fun-filled activities to keep local residents active, but it seems this weekend is a bit busier than most, with a number of festivals and fairs going on all weekend long. If you live outside of the city and plan to make your way into downtown Chicago, don’t forget major roadwork will be closing portions of the Kennedy Expressway, inevitably making traffic an absolute nightmare over the next few days. But, if you’re lucky enough to already be located here in the great city of Chicago and plan on making the most of the next 2-3 days, here’s what’s on tap in Chicago for the weekend of June 13th - 15th:
Old Town Art Fair
Celebrating its 65th year in 2014, the Old Town Art Fair is one of the top art fairs in the entire country. With more than 250 artists from around the U.S. putting their work on display and bringing in an estimated 40,000 attendees, it’s safe to say this annual Chicago event is one of the most anticipated for true art lovers looking to enjoy both the stunning art work on display as well as one of downtown Chicago’s most desirable neighborhoods. The main gate to the Old Town Art Fair will be located at Lincoln & Wisconsin.
Taste of Randolph Street
If you only make it to one food festival this summer, do yourself a favor and make it the Taste of Randolph. Known by many as “Restaurant Row,” Randolph Street is home to many of Chicago’s best and most unique eateries, making the Taste of Randolph the premier street festival when it comes to mouthwatering cuisine. Some of this year’s participating restaurants include bellyQ, City Winery, Grange Hall Burger, Publican Quality Meats, and so many more renowned Chicago restaurants, it’s almost impossible to list them all. Also on-hand will be all kinds of live music acts, so make your way over to this year’s event, which starts TODAY!
Wells Street Art Fair
If you plan on attending this year’s Old Town Art Fair, why not swing over to the Wells Street Art Fair as well, which will only be a short walk away. Celebrating year number 40, the Wells Street Art Fair is routinely ranked in the Sunshine Artist’s Top 100 Fine Art Fairs and will feature works from roughly 250 artists from around the country. Additionally, there will be over 20 local restaurants there serving all sorts of delicious food and refreshments, not to mention a great lineup of live music and a kids’ activity area, which makes the event fun for the whole family.
