Navy Pier Ferris Wheel Permits IssuedThe Navy Pier’s newest Ferris wheel has the green light from the City of Chicago.  This means the current Ferris wheel can come down to make way for a larger one.   The newly issued permits include replacing the Ferris wheel with a new one, plus installing a new loading deck, new canopy and landscaping.

It’s expected that the new Ferris wheel will be about 50-feet taller than its predecessor, with 42, temperature-controlled carriages.  The new and improved Ferris wheel is part of a plan to help celebrate the 100th birthday of the Navy Pier in summer 2016.  The most popular of all tourist attractions in the entire State of Illinois, in 2014 alone, an estimated 8.5 million people visited Navy Pier.

South Loop New Construction Development A massive new residential project is planned for the South Loop.  If it all goes through, the $3 billion Gateway project is expected to include thousands of new residential units for the Chicago area, mostly condominium homes.  The project by Chicago developer Gerald Fogelson is planned to be constructed over the train tracks sitting near the Field Museum and Soldier Field.

It is expected that the development will include 3,000 condos plus around an additional 500 hotel rooms.  Right now few details have been released about the homes.  Reportedly, though, the units will include unobstructed north and east views.  This area is located on the western side of Lake Shore Drive, between McCormick Place and Roosevelt Road.

New Construction Chicago Construction is booming in Chicagoland right now!  In fact, according to a new survey by MetroStudy looking at the third quarter of 2015, the rate of construction is at its highest annual level since the third quarter of 2008.  The 12-month period, which ended in the third quarter of 2015, included starts of more than 6,100 new units.  These included townhomes, duplexes and single-family, detached homes.

In addition, the trend is looking positive for both home starts and home sales.  While the number of home starts is up nearly 10 percent when comparing those started in third quarter of 2014 to the same time period of 2015, the number of closes is down about five percent comparing the two time periods of 2014 and 2015.  Still, 2014 had the most closures of…

1001 S. State Rentals, Chicago IL A new, multi-family residential tower will soon be coming to the South Loop.  Joining in with a number of developers already constructing towers in the same part of Chicago, Golub & Co. teamed has with a mixed-use complex owner to construct the 41-story high-rise.

Located at 1001 S. State Street, Golub is working with CIM Group of Los Angeles on the project.  Planned for 397 units, the $130 million project is CIM Group’s second largest apartment development in the city.  The same company is behind the Block 37 shopping center, constructed in 2012 on State Street.  It also is behind the 690-unit residential tower that tops it.  This makes more than 1,000 apartments being constructed by CIM Group in the city.

Chicago's Top Selling Neighborhoods For Condos & TownhomesWhen it comes to Chicago’s top selling neighborhoods for condos and townhomes the answer is perhaps just as diverse as the city itself.  While overall home sales within the city were up about 6.3 percent for August 2015, the sales were widely spread out across a number of unique Chicago neighborhoods.

When comparing numbers from Redfin, total home sales were at the highest levels in the Near North Side.  The next top contender was Lincoln Park.  The Loop and West Loop came in at the other end of the rankings.  

While the Near North Side saw the most sales activity, though, home sales were actually down between July and August by about 24.2 percent.  This trend stayed consistent across some of the most active neighborhoods in Chicago.  Homes sales fell 31.2…
